As soon as I started reading this book, I was drawn into the story of the three young bears. It was hard to put down, and I will be waiting for the second book! At first, it was weird, reading something by Erin Hunter that wasn't about the cats, but she writes just as wonderfully about bears! It was a wonderful book! Go, Erin Hunter!
Becky (Mt. Pleasant, SC)
By reading the first book I know that Seekers: The Quest Begins is a good start to a great series that might even give Warriors a run for its money. Its colorful characters and vivid imagery will make readers feel like they were actually there, and people will be able to relate to Kallik, Toklo, and Lusa easily. This just goes to show that Erin is still on top.
Lin (Fresno, CA)
Seekers #1: The Quest Begins is a wonderfully interwoven story of three different species of bears. I look forward to the next installment to discover more about him as well as what happens to the three bear cubs.
Kathleen (North Olmsted, OH)
A wonderful book as I've come to expect from Erin Hunter. On the surface it's about bears from three different species and how different they are from one another, but taking a deeper look into the story, we learn lessons that reflect our own world and differences. There's a lot to be learned from Kallik, Lusa, and Toklo!
Teresa (Grove City, OH)
I thought the book was really good, because each of the bears had exciting adventures. I liked the way they described people and their things. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
Brian (Essex Jct, VT)
I thought it was a very cool storyline. Each character had its own (cool) name, a family, a disaster, and a story. They know a lot in the world yet there is soooooo much they still need to learn. I loved the ending. I can't wait for the next one.
Sarah (Dallas, TX)
This book was even better than. I expected! I like how the plot mixes each of the bears together and the different views of the different characters. This will be another great series that Erin Hunter can be proud of
Corey (Nixa, MO)
I really enjoyed this book! The method of storytelling was fresh and exciting, the characters were interesting and I felt sorry for them at all the right times, and the book ends on a note that makes me hungry for the next installment.
Alex (Sammamish, WA)
As soon as I began reading this book, I knew it would be graced with the same genius as Erin Hunter's previous novels. The way she incorporates the bear’s natural behaviors with mystical legends and other intriguing aspects makes for a wonderful tale. Many underlying themes were present such as finding where you belong, the importance of family, and bravery. It was interesting to see how the three individual plots of the lives of three very different bear cubs unfolded and intertwined. Every time a chapter ended, it left you wondering what would happen next. Seekers was full of suspenseful happenings down to the very last page, making it hard to put down. I’m anxiously awaiting the second installment and I would definitely recommend this stunning new series to all of my friends, especially those who are Warriors fans.
Kelsey (Lansdale, PA)
Seekers is a great story! There were some parts that were sad and made me cry. But, most of the time I was wondering what would happen next to the bears. I was happily surprised how the story ended. It was a great adventure.
Sara (Boca Raton, FL)
This is an amazing book. It has a great plotline, and it definitely carries the type of writing of Erin Hunter in the Warriors series. I would definitely read these books again and again. That is saying something, as I am a 13-year-old bookaholic who has read David Copperfield, the Iliad, and the Odyssey. I would recommend this to all of my friends. I hope that this book has long series and eagerly await its official arrival!
Olivia (Weehawken, NJ)
Erin Hunter's new book, Seekers: The Quest Begins, will not disappoint readers of her previous books. Weaving an intricate tale of three lonesome bears, Seekers is an imaginative new book that is sure to be a hit. After all, the Warriors series was not a bestseller because of sheer luck. In Seekers, Erin Hunter combines all the aspects of a good story: the main characters, Kallik, Toklo, and Lusa, are compelling, and they dynamically change throughout the book; the plot is exciting with the perfect amount of despair and hope; the theme of family importance is heartwarming; and the writing is always rich and plentifully detailed. Overall, Erin Hunter uses the outstanding prose of the Warriors series to make Seekers a great read, but its amazing plot and terrific characters give it a uniqueness that give readers page after page of magnificent writing. Seekers is a perfect book for 9-13-year olds.
Dhario (West Chester, PA)
I loved the newest series by the Warriors author. I found that I felt more of a bond with the bears than the cats. I hope that this is just the first of many more of these characters. PS The cover is amazing!
Jess (Herndon, VA)
Great book. I loved it. I did see all the things I loved in the Warriors series. I think this book will be a big hit. I really liked the idea of putting a shape shifting bear in the story. The story has a good plot.
A J (Broadway, VA)
This was a book which had everything - it was exciting, sad, funny and had a great storyline. I loved the way the author switched between characters in each chapter as it kept the excitement level high throughout the book. My favorite character was Kallik who was a polar bear because she didn't give up when things got tough and she always kept her promises. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves an exciting story with an unexpected ending, and has lots of great animal characters. I even liked this book better than Warriors, and that is saying something! Read this book soon!
Jonathan (Omaha, NE)
This book is fantastic! The plot is fresh (polar bears!), and the quest is described in an amazing way. I can't wait for more!
Shanshan (Alhambra, CA)
Seekers is a well written book with an interesting plot. It was a surprise to read Seekers after Erin Hunter's other books because this novel has an element of fantasy. the novel ends with you on the edge of your seat waiting for more. The characters are developed and seem real to the reader. The dangers and life depicted are as realistic as possible, without actually visiting the wild. I believe readers, young and old alike, will enjoy this novel. I am anxiously awaiting the release of the next book in the Seekers series.
Nicole (Yorktown, VA)
This book is one of the very best books I have ever read! It is sad, exciting, it has suspense, and more! I loved it once I read the very first line! Anyone who lover the Warriors books will love this too! Erin Hunter is the best author. I think that Lusa's story is the best; she is so brave and smart. A great story for both boys and girls to read.
Natalie (Barrington, IL)
I really liked this book. I wish i could read the next book right away. I also like how the bears call humans and things firebeast or flatface and those funny kinds of names. I think the author was very creative.
Jeff (Island Lake, IL)
Seekers was a very good book. Every page that I turned, I was eager to find out what would happen next. It's quite different from Erin Hunter's Warriors books, but written in the same style, which makes for a good novel.
Nola (Port Angeles, WA)
I truly enjoyed this book. I felt like the story line was much easier to follow and felt like I was really into the story with each challenge that the 3 bears met. I am looking forward to book two because I need to know how they meet up and what happens to them then. This ended up being a very good book and I will put it in my elementary and middle school libraries.
Joleen (Aberdeen, ID)
Seekers is awesome! Kallik is so cute and fluffy!
Piper (Annapolis, MD)
WONDERFUL!! One of the best books I've ever read! The names were so different and yet so interesting. The entire plot as well as the myths were very interesting as well. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
Katie (Oceanside, CA)
I thought this book was wonderful. The different traditions and myths that the three bears have interested me, and exploring the separate lives the bears live is great. I felt like I was the bear in the book, that I was the one experiencing it first-hand. I was sad that both Kallik and Toklo lost their families so soon in the book, and how Toklo thought his mother felt of him. It surprised me that Lusa ended up meeting Oka, and promising to find Toklo and tell him how Oka really felt. Awesome plot twist with Ujurak, though. I would have never expected a 'bear' like that to come along and find one of the questing bears, or for Lusa to find Toklo so soon. Overall, awesomely fantastic book. I think the Seekers series will turn out just as good as [i] Warriors, a national best-seller. I would definitely recommend this to readers.
Kayley (Midland City, AL)
Seekers is a fantastic book; it has the quality of the first Warriors series, and its own special twists and styles. Seekers also has excellent dialog and character development. It leaves of at a point of high tension, which will leave readers hungry for more.
Olivia (Springfield, VT)
This book is a great starter to a new series. Erin Hunter has done another fabulous job. Erin Hunter has been doing feline books for quite a few years now. It is great that she has taken in more animal species to add into her works. Seekers #1 is a great book that sparks the imagination yet again on what animals really think about. The bears in this book all have personalities that people can really relate too. Hearing each of their lives is just a bonus. The story is outlined perfectly so you always know what character you're following through the world. I could barely put this book down for fear that I would forget the story and never find out what happened to the bears. If I had to rate this book, I would have to give it a full 5 star rating.
Andrew (Cedar Hills, UT)
A thoroughly engaging tale told from the perspective of animals. It was humorous and captivating how the animals thought of humans and their homes and cars. I am left quite anxious to see what happens in the next book in the series.
Angus (Philadelphia, PA)
This story can stand up with the best of the animal stories. The book is written from the view point of three bear cubs, a grizzly, a polar, and a black bear. Each start out describing their home lives in different parts of the country and through various turns of fate they find themselves facing the world alone. I’m fascinated by the plot line and can’t wait to read the next one!
Marcia (Wilmington, DE)
I enjoyed the book. It was a good first book of the series. All the characters were likable. I liked the stories of the bear spirits and the north star of all three bear species, and their comparison. It made me think of Warriors, and I made a real connection. Overall, this book was really great.
Natasha (Las Vegas, NV)
While I was reading this book I just couldn't put it down because I couldn't stand not knowing what came next. The action and suspense was amazing and I can't wait for the next book!!
Alix (Apache Junction, AZ)
Interesting book about three bear families who are very much different yet very much alike. A wonderful story of how even bears have longings for other things, love for their family, and heartache. The book takes on Native American folklore at one point when a new character in the book experiences "shape-shifting". Although this term is not mentioned in the book, the character transforms into different animals. Overall, an interesting book that makes you want to know what happens next.
Laura (Evensville, TN)
Amazing... certain to please any Warriors fan.
Priya (Carnegie, PA)
Erin Hunter's Seekers: The Quest Begins is a wonderful engaging read. Enthralling, fans of the Warriors Series will not be disappointed with this epic journey. Full of shocks and budding friendships, it is an engaging read. I recommend it to anyone, warriors fan or not. Erin Hunter has really outdone themselves.
Isabell (Big Timber, MT)
This book is filled with intrigue, mystery, adventure, and the language used is skilled as the three bears search for something important to each of them. I think that this book will be one of the best books of the whole year.
Jane (Pittsfield, ME)
This book was a very interesting rendition of three little bear cubs on an adventure. This is definitely the first book in a series since it ends with such a huge cliffhanger. Altogether I found this book to be a delightful new novel from a veteran author, Erin Hunter. She really makes Kallik, Lusa, and Toltoc realistic as bears and uses personification to make them seem more in sync with the reader. A very enjoyable read!
Liz (Jacksonville, IL)
I loved this book. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. It is an excellent introduction to three new characters and a new series. I found I really cared about the bears, especially Kallik and want to find out what happens to her as she grows up. Will she find her brother? I hope so. I really enjoyed this book and meeting Kallik, Toklo, Lusa, and the other bears. This is one not to miss reading and will be a sure-fire hit
Lynn (Collierville, TN)
Well done, Erin Hunter! This was a very well-written book with its own style like but not like the Warriors writing. I am glad that it's not just Warriors with bears, but is a totally new adventure that transports you into another world. The "environmental" aspect of the book was hidden but amazing, and I look at the world differently now, as I did when the Warriors world was destroyed by humans. Overall, this is definitely a great fantasy book worth picking up. I anxiously await the actual release, and its sequel!
Grace (Cross Plains, WI)
Wow! I couldn’t put it down! Erin Hunter is the best author in the world. She rocks! I love the books she writes. 100% awesome.
D (Andrews AFB, MD)
Seekers: The Quest Begins By Erin Hunter is a wonderful novel. It combines many aspects of life, like friendship, and even real world problems such as global warming. From the same authors who brought the Warriors series into the book world, Erin Hunter has done it again!
Colin (State College, PA)
This book is really exciting and adventurous. It was extremely fun to read. I love the bears. I loved telling my dad about the book.
Cyndi (Freeville, NY)
Seekers was a blast--that's the bottom line. The plot itself was interesting to unravel--watching as the three bears struggled with death, helicopter crashes, angry bears, emotional mothers, and dangerously tight situations. It made me want to keep reading and reading until the last words spoken by Lusa.
Meghan (Zephyrhills, FL)
I have always been a big fan of animal fantasy, and the Warriors books (also by E. Hunter) dunk you straight into the midst of the wild cats. SEEKERS: The Quest Begins also does that same thing—it pulls you into the world of the bears. Now, I've never before seen an animal-fantasy about bears before, so this was a fresh and interesting read, telling the story of three bear cubs from very different paths who lose their parents and must make it on their own. Switching back and forth between the three cubs, the narration is exciting and descriptive. I very much enjoyed reading the first SEEKERS book, and I hope the rest of the series is just as good.
Abbie (Lancaster, PA)
A-W-E-S-O-M-E! As greatly written as Warriors. This book never had boring parts, just filled with action and suspense. I absolutely loved Lusa, Kallik, and Toklo! They were so alive and heroic; they had the courage of full grown adult bears. Fans of Warriors will find themselves being Seekers fans also. I'm even finding myself screaming for more! Readers will be drawn into this book until finish, and then they can jump into another of Erin Hunter's brilliant books!
Shaniel (Mapleton, UT)
I love Seekers! I like the way in which the author has presented the three bears - developing their personalities and histories separately, and slowly bringing them together. The three story lines alternating made the book very engaging and action-packed; I kept reading page after page because I had to find out what happened to each bear! I think selecting the three bears from different backgrounds was a great idea, and following each bear's progress toward understanding the world around them and how to survive will be exciting. I am anxious to learn more about their "quest"; this book didn't give us hints about the journey after they meet up, so I'm ever so curious about what will happen! As is typical of Erin Hunter, demonstrated in the Warriors series, she forces the characters (and reader) to confront serious and life-changing events, like mortality, basic survival needs, and interaction with different types of personalities. I think her themes are essential to understanding and accepting life's ups and downs, and she presents them in a way that is interesting and exciting.
Rebecca (Santa Ana, CA)
If you’ve never heard of the Warriors series, that’s okay, because Seekers is a totally different animal (no pun intended). The protagonists of The Quest Begins are a trio of bear cubs: Kallik, a polar bear living on the ice; Lusa, a black bear in a zoo; and Toklo, a grizzly out in the forest. Each bear has their own story to tell, their own reason for getting separated from their families, and even their own faith to refer to.
Tara (Rosemont, PA)
I thought that Seekers was a great book and will be a huge success. I absolutely loved the different stories and names for the North Star that each species of bear had. I thought that was very interesting that even within the same kind of animal, the different species could be treated so different. I also loved the cliff hanger ending, so I hope to the see next book soon.
Jenny (Holland, MI)
A phenomenal read. Hunter has surely begun another compelling series. This book shared a few similarities with the Warriors Saga; however, it was very unique; crisp. All of the characters had distinct personalities and detailed stories that helped bring them to life. I immensely enjoyed it and I know others will. I couldn't put it down.
Janna (North Kingstown, RI)
Once I picked up Seekers, I couldn't put it down. I was totally drawn into the stories of Kallik, Lusa, and Toklo, and I can't wait to find out where their adventures lead them. I enjoyed how each chapter focused on the building up a different character. By the end of the book, the story lines were starting to come together and we were setup for what will surely be another wonderful series by Erin Hunter.
Catrina (Webster, NY)
I like Ujurak and his morphogenesis and how every bear has there own beliefs. Like how they say the star is bad bear or dead bear. I also enjoyed their beliefs in what happens to their souls. The ending makes you want to read the next book.
Kurt (Beverton, OR)
Brilliant in its complexity, this story is full of compassion and understanding as three little bears make their way into the world. The beautiful distinction of character through alternating points-of-view really heightened the enjoyment of reading this book. I can't wait to share it with my son, who is a huge fan of Erin Hunter; I will be sure to more of Erin Hunters books because of this story!
Susan (Saint Paul, MN)
Erin Hunt’s new series, Seekers, promises to be as enjoyable and popular as her Warriors. With the fast paced action and her well constructed mythologies for the different types of bears, it also contains realistic information about the effects on bears by global warming and pollution. I’m looking forward to placing Seekers: The Quest Begins into the hands of young readers.
Gillian (Orange, VA)
Seekers embodies the true spirit of Erin Hunter. Even though it is not part of the Warriors series, Seekers has true Warriors spirit. It is so unique from Warriors and so alike it. This book is an amazing read and opens us up to the hardships of the lives of the forest creatures since we intruded into their forests. This book has everything, you will laugh and you will cry. It is a full rounded wonderful read that I recommend for long time Erin Hunter fans and first timers.
Catherine (Lake Mary, FL)
Wow. As a huge fan of the Warriors series, this book was quite a breath of fresh air. It has clearly set up a marvelous plotline for the rest of the series and I look forward to the next books. Let's hope they're on FirstLook as well! The writing flowed marvelously. I loved it. I'll definitely purchase a copy when it's published this May/June, and try to get all my friends to read it. From the time I read the first word to the second I snapped the book shut, I was captivated. Seekers: The Quest Begins has captured my heart, and it is a story I will treasure forever.
Meredith (New York, NY)
Erin Hunter brings yet again another startling image of animals’ minds since her series, Warriors. This time, Hunter brings the audience through forests, fields, ice, and even zoos, to portray the bear. Yet she leaves her admirers wondering, and pretty much believing, that bears may not just be another animal…
Emily (Apex, NC)
Seekers is a daring step away from Warriors for the Erin Hunter trio and it's a good start. Its high points are memorable characters and differing beliefs). It's an encouraging start for a new series. I am very excited to see more of the seeking bears and to read anything Erin Hunter in general.
Erin (Arnold, MD)
Erin Hunter has made yet another fine credit to her tremendous writing skills. This wonderfully written story was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat making it hard to put down. Warriors fans will definitely not be disappointed by the loveable characters and beautifully crafted scenes. At some points I felt as if I had left the comforts of my safe home and were running amongst the dangers of the wild with Kallik, Lusa, or Toklo. Seekers: The Quest Begins is a great read that even the most reluctant readers will absolutely love. Watch out Harry Potter, Seekers is an epic adventure that is sure to please!
Marcie (Warner Robins, GA)
Great book telling about the lives of three different bear groups. They experience joy, heartache, love, and desire for other things. Overall, an interesting book that makes you want to know what happens next.
Ashley (Evensville, TN)
I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens to Kallik, Lusa, and Toklo! Each of their adventures is both sad and exciting. I also liked Ujurak and his shape shifting abilities. I hope Erin makes this a long series like Warriors.
Derek (Mifflintown, PA)
Three bears...one destiny...great book. Seekers: The Quest Begins is a book you just can't put down as you follow the adventures of the three bear cubs, Kallik, Toklo, and Lusa as they learn to experience the frightful world when they loose their mothers. Erin Hunter, author of the New York Time’s best selling Warriors, has done it yet again, bringing a new kind of series that any age will love. Though it’s a big leap from cats to bears, the Hunter team makes Seekers the best new children’s book of 2008. Don’t walk, run to buy this wonderful book on May 27th at your nearest bookstore. You’ll never think about bears the same way again.
Tory (Plantation, FL)
What a great story for young readers! There are so many great lessons to be learned from this book. I can see it being used in a classroom setting to study the lessons and the metaphors. I would love to see young adult book-clubs choose this book!
Karen (Mesa, AZ)
Any Warriors lover will love this series. Written just as well as warriors but with a bear’s point of view instead of a cat’s. Just as believable as the cats of warriors, it makes you think about bears in a different way then you did before.
Nora (Post Falls, ID)
I really liked this book. Once again I have been captivated by new words such as “burn sky”. There were a lot of factual descriptions on all three species of bears. I am a nature lover and I noticed that there is so much research that went into this book. If you liked Warriors I’ll bet you will enjoy this book just as well.
