Robert Sabuda grew up in the small rural town of Pinckney in southeastern Michigan. With the ability to hold a crayon came the discovery that he was an artist. Spending hours, days, and weeks drawing, painting, cutting, and gluing, his bedroom was a constant whirlwind of pencil shavings, drippy paint brushes, and mounds of paper scraps. His mother's pleas of “when are you going to clean up this mess?!” went unanswered. After graduating high school, Robert left Michigan to attend Pratt Institute in New York City to study art which led him to an internship at Dial Books for Young Readers. Soon after, Robert decided that he wanted to become a children’s book illustrator. Today, he is the world-renowned paper engineer and creator of many favorite pop-up books, including Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, America the Beautiful, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Winter’s Tale. He currently lives in New York City and works in a studio that he shares with his partner, children's book creator Matthew Reinhart. “We love making books. It's hard work but the best part is not having to worry about making a mess.” The Chronicles of Narnia Pop-up is his first book with HarperCollins.
