Don't wait for a special occasion to thank a teacher. Any day is a good time to offer your support and make the teachers in your child's life feel appreciated. Try one or more of these simple ideas for celebrating all that teachers do.

When your child comes home full of enthusiasm and excitement for school and learning, let the teacher know! Send thank-you notes, emails, or e-cards to teachers throughout the school year to acknowledge the specific ways they've made a difference or to compliment their teaching style.
Make your gratitude to a teacher public knowledge by sending a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Include what the teacher said or did that was meaningful to you or your child.

Your child's teacher shares in the responsibility of raising your child. Get to know this person! Always attend school meetings and parent-teacher conferences. And when possible, drop by to chat with your child's teacher and show a little interest in her life beyond the classroom.
Ask teachers how you can help them and respond to their requests for assistance. Is an extra pair of hands needed in the classroom for a routine task, special activity, or field trip? Is there something the teacher needs for the classroom? Volunteer to take on activities that take teachers away from teaching.

Work together with other parents to celebrate the teachers at your child's school. Get involved with your school's parent organization and plan appreciation activities and celebrations, such as:
Catered or potluck lunches for teachers on parent-teacher conference days
Hot chocolate, ice cream, or other seasonal treats in the teachers lounge
Class scrapbooks with messages from students
Teachers often find themselves paying for supplies out of their own pockets. Gifts that lead to more learning are a great way to thank educators. Gift cards to office supply stores, magazine subscriptions, board games, and new books for the classroom are doubly rewarding.
You can help a teacher without ever taking a class trip or volunteering in the classroom. Support teacher efforts by encouraging your child to have a positive attitude about school. Model good learning at home and help your child develop a love of reading.
